My Story

For more than two years, I have been dealing with recurring kidney stone pain. I want to share my experience, especially regarding the role of Lactobacillus Rhamnosus in "dissolving" my stones. First I want to introduce the types of pain I have experienced:

In my particular case, I have had a stone lodged in my bladder that I have not been able to expel for more than two years. As a result, every time my bladder is empty, most often at night, I experience the second type of pain. The discomfort usually subsides after I drink about two to three liters of water and wait for roughly an hour. I believe this relief occurs because the increased fluid intake allows the stone to float more freely in the bladder, reducing irritation.

Around the two-year mark, I began taking a gummy supplement that contained the probiotic strain Lactobacillus Rhamnosus. After about a week of daily use, sometimes exceeding the recommended dose by two gummies, I experienced three episodes of the first type pain (the intense, classic kidney stone pain in the lower back) within a single week. This was highly unusual for me, typically, I would have just one such episode per month at most. Concerned, I immediately stopped taking the supplement, suspecting it might be triggering stone formation, especially since it also contained a small amount of vitamin C. However, about a week after discontinuing it, I had a strong sensation during urination that a stone may have been expelled.

Reflecting on my experience, I now think that the three episodes of pain in one week may have been due to the expulsion of "old" kidney stones. These stones were likely too large to pass before, but may have become small enough to move through the ureter and into the bladder, finally allowing them to be expelled.

What’s even more remarkable is that I have been pain-free since then, not even experiencing the second type of pain that troubled me daily for over two years. Before my kidney stone issues began, I rarely drank water, consuming at most half a liter a day. Once the pain started, especially the second type, I had to increase my water intake to two liters daily just to keep the pain under control.

Now, for the first time in years, I feel like my old self again. I no longer need to force myself to drink two to three liters of water every day, and I remain pain-free.

I’m sharing my experience to help others who might want to try this. I have tried many alternative medicines, mainly herbal infusions like stone breakers, but they didn’t work for me. While they increased my urination, I continued to experience the same type of pain. I always believed that my only option was to see a doctor to have the stone removed from my bladder.

FAQ

What is the exact supplement brand you were using?

Since my intention is not to promote any specific supplement, I won’t mention the brand here. In my case, the key factor was the bacterial count, which was around 200 million CFU (colony-forming units) per serving. Any supplement with a similar composition should work. However, if you're truly interested in the exact brand I used, feel free to contact me directly at info@kidneystonesremedy.com

How long does it take for the supplement to take effect?

It likely depends on the number of stones you have and the amount of bacteria in the supplement. In my case, it took about two weeks, one week of taking the supplement, followed by another week during which I passed the stones. After that, I was pain-free. The supplement I used contained around 200 million CFU (colony-forming units) of bacteria per serving.

Are there any studies that support your claims?

Several studies suggest that certain probiotic strains may help prevent the formation of new kidney stones by reducing urinary oxalate levels. In my personal (anecdotal) experience, taking Lactobacillus Rhamnosus also seemed to help with the elimination of existing stones. While direct clinical evidence for stone removal is limited, Lactobacillus Rhamnosus has been studied for its general benefits to kidney health and function.

Did you get to the doctor?

Yes, I visited the doctor several times and underwent a CT scan during the first month of dealing with kidney stone pain. The scan confirmed that I had a 3 mm stone. However, I never underwent surgery, believing I could pass the stone naturally by drinking plenty of water, which in my case, didn’t work. It wasn’t until I started taking a supplement containing Lactobacillus Rhamnosus that things began to change.

The treatment works or doesn't work for me. How can I help?

The most valuable way to contribute is by sharing your experience. You can do so by contacting me at info@kidneystonesremedy.com . Whether the treatment worked for you or not, your feedback is important. You can also help by sharing this website with anyone you know who is suffering from kidney stones, so they can try the treatment and share their own experience.

What other supplements have you tried that did not work?

I have experimented with several commonly recommended remedies for kidney stones, including apple cider vinegar, potassium citrate, magnesium citrate, chanca piedra (phyllanthus niruri), and tamsulosin. Unfortunately, none of these helped me eliminate the stones I had.

Scientific Support

For those interested in the scientific background behind the potential role of Lactobacillus Rhamnosus in kidney stone health, here is one particularly relevant review article:

"Kidney stones: The evolving role of the urinary microbiome" – published in Microbiome Research Reports (2022)

This article discusses recent findings on how bacteria, including probiotic strains, may play a role in stone formation and potential dissolution—challenging the old assumption that stones are purely chemical in origin.
